The Martin Enrichment Academy (MEA) just ended its summer program. The program started on May 24 and ended on July 15. The kids did many educational, fun, and mind-stimulating activities during these weeks. They learned to work well with others on projects and other activities. The MEA planted flowers and vegetables in the MEA garden. The students harvested and ate dishes created with the vegetables. During the summer program, the kids learned about different animals at the zoo and did a presentation for everyone. The MEA kids took several field trips to the Martin Public Library, America's Incredible Pizza, and the Discovery Park of America. While on the field trips to the library, they attended the book fair and made cat toys donated to the Red Fern Animal Shelter. The Incredible Pizza and Discovery Park field trips promoted family engagement. At the Discovery Park, they learned about animals, history, and science, looked at army trucks and planes, and did some cool experiments. We had a total of 40 kids for the summer program. We had community partners stop by to share information with the kids and do some activities with them. The Weakley County Prevention Coalition visited us a few times. Mrs. Melony, a public health dental hygienist with the TN Department of Health/Gibson County Community Health Center, educated the kids on oral hygiene.
